Listening skills are a foundational skill for many activities, including coaching, leadership, negotiation and problem solving, not to mention deepening relationships in all areas of our life. This course presents the fundamentals of listening skills. Format: This practical course combines interactive teaching, discussion and practical application.   Delegates will practice applying the theory and techniques they have learned in pairs and small groups. Where comfortable to do so, delegates will be encouraged to record their practice in order to reflect on and review their application of skills in practice situations.

This course builds on the basic elements of listening skills. The focus is primarily on one to one and small group conversations and meetings, rather than presentations (although there are overlapping areas).

Familiar with the knot in your stomach before certain workplace conversations – giving feedback to someone whose performance is lacking in some way; breaking news of reorganisation; telling an author that his writing has missed the mark; breaking the news to someone that they didn’t get the job or the business; just saying ‘no’?  Applying the principles of compassion and authenticity this course takes attendees through a process of gaining insight into what makes these conversations difficult, formulating effective messages and delivering them with congruence and empathy.

Course Dates

Coaching is a core skill in the manager’s toolkit, being the primary tool for realising skills and personal development in team members.  This course considers the unique context of coach and manager, taking attendees through elements of goal setting, situational analysis, action planning and review using a behavioural coaching model.  Alongside the model, attendees will learn core communication skills for the delivery of coaching with team members.

Who it is for: Line managers and people training as line managers. People who have a technical mentoring role will also benefit from developing this skillset

Format: This course is highly participative. Interspersed with the presentation of formal content, delegates will practice the skills and techniques in pairs and small groups.  Whole group reflection and discussion is used as a vehicle for reflection and embedding of practice.  Delegates are encouraged to record and reflect on their delivery during the course.

This course uses a combination of approaches to help people work through their fear of public speaking and learn the emotional and technical skills that enable them to connect with their audience and deliver effective presentations.

Format: This practical course combines interactive teaching, discussion and practical application.   Delegates will practice applying the theory and techniques presented in a graduated manner, working towards the delivery of a short presentation towards the end of the first day.  Each delegate will prepare a personal action plan that will form the basis for further development.  Although the prospect might appear unlikely, delegates will be invited to record some practice for review with the facilitator.

The voice is a key element of our ability to communicate, influence and handle questions. As with most skills, vocal skills can be developed and refined to serve the purpose in hand. Led by a professional actor and experienced public speaker, this course deconstructs our vocal capacities and explores a range of exercises to enable delegates to use their voice to enhance their personal impact in a range of settings.

Who it is for: Anyone who needs to use their voice as part of presentations or one to one interactions. It will be particularly helpful for those seeking to enhance their presence and gravitas in challenging situations, e.g. major presentations; job interviews.

What you will learn: How to modulate your voice to provide a confident impression in situations where you may find your voice letting you down; exercises to use to develop your skills and as a vocal warm up.

Course Information

Our guaranteed low facilitator to delegate ratio allows for a personalised approach.  Our lead facilitators are all experienced coaches and psychologists with depth of experience in working with delegates at the most effective point for each individual’s personal growth, both in groups and individually.   This ensures that you leave our courses with new learning, skills and tools that enable you to apply your learning and achieve results specific to the demands of your day to day life and career.

You will receive a resource package of course notes covering course content and templates for practices presented together with recommendations for further reading, videos and other sources of potential interest.

To get the most out of our courses, we recommend considering some individual coaching sessions to help apply your insights and learning in the real world.

We offer both face to face and coaching at discounted rates for our alumni if booked within a month of course completion.

If you have to cancel attendance at a course, under normal circumstances we do not offer a refund for cancellations made within a month of the course date.  In this situation attendance can be deferred to a future date for the same course or any other course we offer.  If exceptional circumstances apply, cancellations will be considered on an individual basis.   All cancellations must be notified in writing and will be acknowledged promptly.  If you do need to cancel, please ensure that you have received confirmation of the cancellation from us.
